Energy

The power and ability to be physically and mentally active...

To be effective on the football pitch it’s important to be lively, always think about the game and be ready for action. Impose yourself in the game, on the opposition and enthuse your team-mates with your personality.

Question for Ian Ashbee, Hull City Captain

Q. Could you explain what being a captain means you?

A. If you see people around you who are happy and energetic then I think it can rub off on you, so I try to be like that. I don’t think you can be at half pace in training during the week and then just lift yourself for a game at the weekend. You need to have that intensity all the time and as the captain I try and set that example.

As the captain I also encourage my team-mates a lot and try to be as vocal as possible on the pitch. Having a few voices in the team is important because good teams communicate well with each other.
